Omg the before is so so bad! And of course the kids had to work their way into the after. 🙂

All I did was put a coat of paint on, add some flowers and moved a shelf because I thought it would look pretty good outside. All together the total cost was about $100.

I’m pretty sure I’ve killed half those flowers already, but thats for another post. Next project: Paint the deck red!

Its porch painting day! Aren’t you excited?

1 Jun

Ok, I know I haven’t been on here forever but we are going to move past that because its time to paint! Yes, again. This time I’m taking it outside to my front porch. Now, lately I’ve been bitching up a storm about my house….its not in the neighborhood I want, too many things to fix, blah blah blah. I’ve decided to put my big girl panties on, suck it up and make some improvements.

First up: the front porch! The front of my house has bothered me for as long as I can remember. Does that mean I’ve done anything about it? No. No it does not. But that changes today. It not only needs a new coat of paint, but a new color. The color on the steps and porch now is kind of a hunter green and although that color is ok, I’m so sick of it. It is also the color of every exterior door we have as well as the color of the back deck.

The two colors I’ve been seriously debating for the porch and steps are a dark brick red or a charcoal gray. If I did the charcoal gray, I would paint the door red. It would be nicer if the door faced the street instead of being off to the side, but oh well. I was all set with the red, but then realized that there is a lot of brick around the steps and the brick red with the reddish brick is throwing me off. So I guess dark gray it is! The siding is tan so pretty much anything goes. I’m planning on adding some flowers and signs to make up for the lack of color.

I know what you are going to say….before and after pics! Yes, you know I will post them. I almost included a before pic with this post but I’m kind of too lazy right now to go snap a pic.

I’ll be back with pictures…I promise!

My first week at The Loco Bean

12 Jul

I don’t think I will ever have to say “I’m bored” ever again. This week has been so crazy and busy that I have literally been falling in bed every night and passing out from exhaustion…..but I love it! Its so exciting and scary at the same time to start a new business but I love setting things up the way I want. I opened the coffee shop officially this last Tuesday and I already have regular customers! Its been fun meeting new people every day and creating fun new drinks to try out.

Some of the best drinks and desserts are created from mistakes and accidents and we’ve definitely had a few of those. Yesterday instead of house coffee, we put Chocolate Macadamia Nut coffee in a mocha frappe and it was so good that we are adding it to the menu.

I also forgot how much I loved working downtown and I’m so glad to be back there again. There is never a dull moment and I work in front of huge windows so I get to watch and see everything going on.

My favorite compliment today was when a woman ordered an iced mocha and said she loved it and it was better than where she usually gets it from. I hope each week can be like this one and that we continue to meet new customers so we can stick around for awhile!

When things settle down a little, I will be posting from the coffee shop and taking pictures of drinks I create and hopefully some new desserts also. I’m thinking the color of the place is a little too calm for my liking so my next post will probably be pictures of the new paint…..because I had too much extra time on my hands 😉

What a difference a coat of paint makes!

17 Apr

For those who know me or have followed me for awhile, know that I’m kind of addicted to painting. The feeling I get when I transform something blah or yucky looking is awesome, so I try to do it as often as I can. I’ve painted about every room in my house so it was time to take it outside….it definitely needed it!

I started with my deck on the back of the house and then decided the back door needed help. I paint this stupid deck every freaking year! With the wear and tear from the dogs, people walking on the steps and the salt and snow it looks awful come spring. This year was a bit of a challenge to keep the dogs of the porch since they are both active puppies and they can pretty much jump over or climb under any barrier I put in place. They are lucky they are so damn cute.

I didn’t like the color green I painted the deck last year so I had to figure out a new one, but it had to be in the green family since thats what color the garage door and side door are. I went to the store, found one I liked and brought it home. Apparently I’m getting better at this stuff because I picked out the exact color of the outside doors.

I started with the deck….which is a pain in the ass with all the slat things and railing. Then I moved onto the door that my one husky/shepard loves to scratch, jump on and basically try to tear apart.  I’ve never painted an exterior door before and am way too lazy to take it off the hinges so I just opened it, painted it and let it dry. Much easier!

The paint cost me $22 and I already had a paintbrush, roller and tray so I’m pretty happy with how thrifty this ended up being.

Upping the crazy

31 Jan

I just realized its been almost three weeks since my last post. Lets see whats new in my life….I got a new puppy, painted the walls in the upstairs bathroom chalkboard and have decided to move rooms around in the house. There are five people in our house and everyone except one, are getting a different bedroom.

This is the layout we have now: Upstairs has 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. My teenage daughter is in one room, my 8 yr old son is in 1 room and the other room is being used as a playroom. Then downstairs we have 2 bedrooms….my husband and I are in one room and my 2 yr old daughter is in the other.

New layout: Do away with the playroom and that would now be the parents bedroom. My teenager moves into where our bedroom was. My 2 yr old moves up where the teenager was. That leaves an empty room downstairs which will be turned into an office. Whew that sounds like a lot of work!!

I also need to get a twin bed and new bedding for my 2 yr old, new bedding for my bedroom and I need to rip up carpet, paint my bedroom and office and maybe get a couple pieces of furniture. I’m going to attempt to do this on a very strict budget. Except for my duvet because I already kind of have it picked out 🙂

This is Leonard…he gets along very well with our other puppy, Penny.

These are some before and almost after pics from my chalkboard bathroom project ….I’ve had a few people ask why chalkboard a bathroom and to that I say why not?

As you can see, I painted and then “seasoned” the walls with chalk and then cleared a spot to test out but I haven’t gotten around to taking a picture of the walls all done. I will put that on my to do list.

The next pictures are ideas for my new bedroom. I’ve already decided I want the walls a dark gray – I picked out a color from Valspar….its called Gotham Gray. I also picked out a few duvet covers I like and I’m pretty sure I’ve narrowed it in on my favorite. I wonder if there will ever be a time where I’m not painting, moving or rearranging something. I hope not because I’m starting to think I enjoy it.

Project Mania

11 Jan

I know this will come as a surprise…..I’m painting again. I think I actually have an addiction to paint …or color….or change. I’m the most happy when I have lots going on and a project to work on. I’m very dangerous when I’m bored.

Today I’m painting the downstairs hallway and possibly the upstairs bathroom. We all know how I hate neutrals and white walls so for this project I chose a dark navy blue. Dark. The color is Midnight Dream by Behr.

After this its on to my playroom project. I have about 500 ideas on paint, what to get rid of, how to arrange, furniture, etc. Hopefully I can focus and narrow down to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Its not really my fault though…..who’s fault is it? Well, Pinterest of course! There are so many great ideas on there that I really need to stop looking!

I did buy some unsanded tile grout ….I’m thinking of making my own chalkboard paint. If it works, I will probably come back here with pictures of how I chalkboarded my entire house. Don’t laugh…its a very real possibility. My friend Tonia and I were passing ideas back and forth and she said I should paint my 2 yr old daughter’s room with pink chalkboard paint. So that’s happening.

Oh and someone should probably talk me out of doing a lego wall in the playroom. The cost alone will probably stop me, but just in case I may need a sane person to talk me down from the ledge. It is literally a wall where you cover it entirely with lego base plates and the kids can build on it. The other walls would be chalkboard. The seating would be bean bag chairs and maybe a futon. Ok, I need to calm down. But seriously though, how cool does that sound?

Just in case anyone wants to jump aboard the crazy, here are some pictures that I’m using as inspiration:

The first one I found on: http://techcrunch.com/2012/05/17/and-the-first-facebook-ipo-hackathon-photos-roll-in/hackathon-lego-wall/                 & the other two are from Pinterest

My 1,000 lb TV stand

2 Jan

This is an update to my last post about painting my piano. I’m finally done with it and I painted my bedroom the dark plum color I fell in love with. I’m not done by any means but this is what I have so far.

My piano is horribly out of tune and will take too much money to fix so I thought painting it and making it a piece of furniture would help me not hate it. It did. I didn’t tape anything off or take the piano apart like most people would do….I figured it doesn’t work so whats the point. I just grabbed a can of paint I had left from my bathroom project, found a paint brush and got to work.

I then decided to use it as a makeshift TV stand since my old one was ugly and I’m not willing to buy a new one or go through the trouble of mounting it on the wall.

I picked up the lamp for $8 and spray painted an old gold frame blue and painted the glass with chalkboard paint.

So far, with the new comforter and sheets, (I will post pics when that part of the room is done), paint and lamp, the makeover to my room has cost me $102.00. I’m pretty ok with that.
